GCSE English Language and Literature Support

If your child is following their English GCSE course, we understand the challenges they will be facing. Our GCSE sessions are designed to support them in all areas of both the English Language and Literature courses, depending on what they need.

They may feel particularly daunted by certain Literature texts they are studying - or perhaps the Shakespeare or poetry controlled assessments are giving them a headache! Maybe they have been disappointed by mock results and feel they need general support in order to understand how to improve their reading and writing skills. We can help. We have years of experience teaching the GCSE courses to learners of various abilities.

GCSE Examiners:

Most importantly, we are GCSE examiners, which means we mark the GCSE exams. We know, therefore, exactly how the exam board will assess your child and how to develop the skills they need in order to give it their best shot when it’s their turn to sit the paper.

How it Works:

Following your child’s free assessment, they will follow a unique programme of learning, which is designed to maximise their development depending on their specific needs. In general, however, we cover all the skills and content they will be assessed on in the GCSE English and English Literature exams:

  • Literature Study: Of Mice and Men, An Inspector Calls, Lord of the Flies, Heroes, A View from the Bridge, Blood Brothers, A Christmas Carol etc.
  • Shakespeare
  • Poetry
  • Speaking & Listening Unit 1: Individual Speech & Group Discussion.
  • Reading and writing for Unit 2: description, narration and exposition
  • Reading and writing for Unit 3: argumentation, persuasion and instruction
